Kevin has worked with the Detroit Public Schools Community District for 11 years and currently serves as the Senior Director of Culinary Services.

Kevin was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and he took up cooking as a hobby while in high school. He intended to go to college for aeronautical engineering. However, he knew that cooking could be a good way to make money, so he planned to put himself through culinary school. Kevin used the money he made cooking to put himself through engineering school. After completing culinary school, he worked in various restaurants around the Michigan area and found that he was pretty good at not only cooking but managing people. He continued a career in food service because he enjoyed both Back of the House and Front of the House operations.

Eventually, his career path led to school food service. Kevin was a food service coordinator for a charter school in Detroit when he met Betti Wiggins in 2012. She was looking for someone with a culinary background who was familiar with child nutrition for a role. In September 2012, Kevin started working for DPS (Detroit Public Schools). This is my sixth year with DPSCD (Detroit Public School Community District, formerly DPS) and during his time there he has been able to create change not only professionally, but personally as well.

From changing the menu to attaining his SNS certification and a B.A. in Business Administration to completing an MBA with a concentration in finance, his work at DPSCD has both challenged and rewarded him. Kevin’s personal mission is to be better today than he was yesterday, and that goal is what drives him to improve both personally and professionally. Kevin comes to work daily with excitement and an intense drive to be the best he can be not only for himself, but for the students of Detroit as well.
